ALONDRA PARK, Calif. — October 31, 2026. The park best known locally for its lake, open space and recreation facilities also plays a role in Los Angeles County’s efforts to improve stormwater management and reduce pollution entering waterways.
The county’s Alondra Community Regional Park Multi-Benefit Stormwater Capture Project is designed to collect and treat runoff during wet and dry weather. The county says the project diverts water through infrastructure that helps keep pollutants from reaching the Dominguez Channel.
More than underground pipes
County materials describe improvements involving native and drought-tolerant trees and plants, bioswales and permeable pavement, as well as upgrades to park recreation areas. These features can slow or filter runoff and improve the public landscape.
What is the project status?
The county’s Water for LA overview describes what the project is intended to do and its environmental benefits. Earlier construction announcements set target completion dates, but an earlier target is not proof of final completion. California58 has not independently verified a final acceptance or completion certificate as of October 31, 2026.
Why local residents should care
Alondra Park serves residents of neighboring South Bay cities and the unincorporated El Camino Village community. Cleaner stormwater and resilient park landscapes affect more than one city boundary. Residents can ask the county about project completion, continued maintenance, park access and how water-quality outcomes will be measured.
Water captured and treated by infrastructure should not be confused with an assurance that the park lake itself is safe for drinking or swimming. Follow posted safety rules.
